In 2016, Amthor International introduced a new training program, Train2Work, in partnership with Virginia Technical Institute in AltaVista, VA. The five week program trains workers in welding, electrical, and tank truck maintenance. All graduates of the program are guaranteed a job at Amthor International’s manufacturing plant in Gretna.
The program has been very successful. Over 20 students have graduated and are now employed with jobs with Amthor International. Initially, Amthor International has received between 50 and 70 applications for the approximately 30 positions.
What made the initial venture so successful was the collaboration with organizations like the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, Pittsylvania County Planning & Development, and Dan River Regional Collaborative, VTI as well as Workforce Investment Board that provides funding and services.
