Hank Vanderveen, Rest in Peace

We learned this morning with great sadness, we’ve lost a dear friend and co-worker, Hank Vanderveen.  Hank was very well known and respected in the vacuum industry.  He served on numerous boards, committees, associations and won awards related to the industry.  Hank joined Amthor International 13 years ago and was instrumental in working with Butch and Brian on tank designs and their vast ways of operations. He was a wonderful teacher, generous with his time, had very loyal customers, and at the trade shows, he was “Hank Hollywood” because everyone came by to see him.  At this time, we don’t have information regarding the arrangements.

Hank Please keep Hank’s family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time.

  • All employees require proper handwashing throughout the day
  • We are encouraging the appropriate social distancing parameters
  • We are keeping our sales team off of the road and working from home during this time

Amthor International will remain open and fully functional during this time. Should the government issue guidance for us to close, we will update everyone on our plan at that time. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will follow the direction of public health officials and government agencies.

Train2Work Partnership with Danville Community College

Amthor International Train2Work Welding Course

Amthor International has partnered with Danville Community College (DCC) to create a welding course with the potential to work for Amthor after completion of the course. This is a non credit course offered through DCC and taught by Amthor International’s Operations Manager, Ronnie Farmer. This beginner’s course is designed to teach people who are interested in obtaining a new skill set in welding and possible employment with Amthor International. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a GMAW Certification with American Society of Mechanical Engineers and an opportunity to apply to Amthor International for employment. The course lasts for eight (8) weeks and meets on Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:00 – 8:00pm.

The Amthor International Train2Work course teaches Welding Gas Metal Arc Fillet Welding (Welding GMAW). This training course introduces semi-automatic welding processes with emphasis on practical applications. It includes the study of filler wires, fluxes, and gases. At the end of the course, the participants should be able to:

  • know the differences between the most common welding technologies and the GMAW (MIG) welding process

Our Flat Vac Mini Slide in Unit

When it comes to vacuum trucks, few manufacturers can offer the options that we can here at Amthor International. In fact, we even offer a flat vac mini slide-in unit for companies that need to empty out porta-potties but who don’t need large vacuum trucks to do the job. If this is the case for you, the flat vac mini slide-in unit is a much more cost-efficient option.

Our Flat Vac Mini Slide in Unit

Our flat vac mini slide-in unit is perfect for easy porta-potty servicing and is an entry-level unit. It’s a lot smaller than our typical vacuum trucks and can be slid into a basic pickup truck with ease. Besides being an economical option for smaller companies, the flat vac mini slide in unit is a great option for larger businesses as well. This is because it’s a good compliment to your normal fleet of vacuum trucks as its smaller size makes it great for hard to reach jobs.

While there are other slide-in units on the market, few have the innovative design as ours. This is because our flat vac mini slide in unit uses a revolutionary rectangular design that helps to eliminate blind spots, allowing drivers to see out their back windshield, thereby making it much safer and easier for drivers to operate. The low profile of the tank also results in a lower center of gravity, making the unit more aerodynamic, which in turn helps to prevent sloshing while the pump is in use and the tank is being transported.

Even though our flat vac mini slide-in unit is considered an entry-level unit, it still comes with the customizable options that customers have come to expect from our line of tanker trucks. These options include:

  • Steel, stainless steel and aluminum material
  • Multiple tank sizes starting at 300 gallons
  • Multiple compartment options
  • Several pump makes and models to choose from

Features on all of our flat vac mini slide-in units include the following:

  • Full-length baffles and bulkheads
  • An angled floor that allows for easy draining
  • A raised rear pump platform and a waste compartment discharge located beneath it
  • A two-inch inlet and a three-inch discharge
  • A 12V water pump
  • Two-inch suction hose with wand and valve

For more information about our flat vac mini slide in unit, be sure to contact us at Amthor International today.

Our Vacuum Tanker Facility Expansion Plans

At Amthor International, we have built a reputation over the past 25 years as the best manufacturer of vacuum trucks in the country due to our commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality. However, you’ll never catch us resting on our laurels. We continuously strive to improve our business, which is why we are currently planning on reconfiguring our vacuum tanker fabrication department by expanding our facilities. Doing so should allow us to improve our productivity.

Our Vacuum Tanker Facility Expansion Plans

We are planning on rearranging and expanding our vacuum tanker department in order to both optimize our productivity and to streamline our process for manufacturing vacuum tankers. As part of our plans, we will add roughly 90,000 square feet of space to our existing vacuum tanker manufacturing facility, which is located in Gretna, VA.

Although the beginning construction date has yet to be set in stone, construction is expected to begin sometime during the summer. Once it’s started, we are hoping to complete our facility expansion within 90 to 120 days. Besides improving our ability to manufacture vacuum tankers in an efficient manner, the expansion of our facility should also help to add around a hundred jobs within the next five years.

About Amthor International

We are extremely proud of the fact that we produce all of our tanker trucks in the United States. Besides the advantage of buying American, we also go to great lengths to customize our tanker trucks based on the specific needs of our clients.

As far as our vacuum trucks go, we build code and non-code tanks with stationary or dumping as well as full opening rear doors. Countless customization options are available, from the material of your choice to compartment sizes and more. One of the more unique features available on our line of vacuum trucks is the CLAW, which is a series of hydraulic arms that open and close the vacuum truck’s rear door, thereby eliminating the use of wing nuts and providing a tighter seal than any person could provide manually. The CLAW makes our vacuum trucks safer and more convenient.

For more information about our vacuum truck facility expansion plans or about the customization options that we offer for our vacuum trucks, be sure to contact us at Amthor International today.

DCC WELDING STUDENTS FIND GOOD JOBS CLOSE TO HOME AT AMTHOR INTERNATIONAL

Danville, Va., July 13, 2018 — A new fast-track aluminum welding class at Danville Community College is helping students find good local jobs after just a few weeks of study.

Six students who recently completed the first eight-week Welding GMAW class at DCC have already been hired by Amthor as the company expands its operations in Gretna. They are: Brandon Betterton, Steven Gauldin, Sheila Hughes, Stormy Hendrickson, Anthony Long, and Noah Richardson.

Amthor Operations Manager Ronnie Farmer, who started with the company as a tank welder when it began 25 years ago, teaches the non-credit welding course.

“We had a lot of fun. They applied their lessons really well,” he said of his first class.

Farmer will be teaching a second evening course 5-8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, August 27 – October 17 in DCC’s newly constructed welding facility, which features all new state-of-the-art equipment. Grant funding is available to qualifying students to cover tuition and may also be available for supportive services such as transportation assistance, child care, tool/uniform purchases, résumé assistance, and more.

There are no prerequisites for this course. The ideal student is interested in welding, likes to work with their hands, and wants to learn new skills. Students are encouraged not to miss any classes because of the fast pace of the training and the shortened length of the course.

Students who successfully complete the course will earn a GMAW Certification from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and are encouraged to apply for employment with Amthor International.

While taking the class does not guarantee an interview or employment, “Ronnie knows what Amthor needs and tailors his instruction accordingly,” said Amthor Human Resources Manager Adrienne James, noting that the company recently announced its expansion and has a need to hire more skilled workers, primarily in welding.

“We want to emphasize the importance of this partnership with DCC,” said Amthor Executive Vice President Brian Amthor. “We need skilled workers in order to grow our business. This class helps local workers gain valuable job skills in a short period of time so that we can continue to meet the growing demand for our products nationally and internationally.”

Amthor added, “Ronnie is a great teacher and brings a lot to the table. He is an asset not only to Amthor, but also to the college in sharing his experience.”

The Amthor International Train2Work course teaches Gas Metal Arc Fillet Welding (GMAW). It introduces semi-automatic welding processes with emphasis on practical applications and includes the study of filler wires, fluxes, and gases. At the end of the course, successful completers should be able to:

  • know the differences between the most common welding technologies and the GMAW (MIG) welding process
  • learn the different shielding gases and the common types of wire and their costs
  • identify the most important parts of a MIG/MAG welding machine
  • know how to change the machine parameters and the working and consumable parts of the machine
  • make use of the most common edge preparations and the different weld joint designs
  • know how to weld mild steel with different techniques, positions and joints

How to Operate a Dual Fuel Tanker

One of the most important things you can do after you purchase a new custom built Amthor tanker is knowing how to properly operate the equipment. This is especially true for dual fuel tankers. These special tankers feature two pumps, two meters, and two hose reels. This means you are doubling up on all your equipment from a single axle unit.

In a dual equipment tanker, you will need to engage each PTO and pump pressure valve. Make sure you are familiar with how to use the dry brakes in the rear and all of the bottom loading equipment on the curbside of the tanker before you make your first delivery. Additionally, you will need to ensure that the hose reel rewind, hose reel kill switch, emergency pump shut off and emergency fire release are all working properly before you put your tanker to work.

We encourage you to keep up on the regular maintenance of your vessel. Make sure you keep your PTO drive shaft greased thoroughly and check all your tie downs monthly to make sure they are tight. For more tank maintenance tips, be sure to speak with your sales representative or the manufacturing plant manager.

Fuel trucks

At Amthor International, we carry a reputation for being one of the premier tank truck manufacturers in the entire United States. One of the reasons for this is because we provide an extensive selection of tank trucks for a number of different industries, including the fuel industry. Our fuel trucks are specifically designed to meet the needs of businesses that need to deliver fuel to homes and commercial buildings alike.

Our Amthor International Fuel Trucks

Every fuel delivery business has different needs. For example, you may be in the business of delivering fuel for machine refueling, for vehicles, for aviation refueling, for gas stations, for commercial heating or for residential heating, just to name a few possibilities. To meet your specific needs, we not only offer numerous customization options, we offer two different tank models that come in seven different styles.

Our Fuel Truck Features

We have two different models that you can choose from – the Monarch and the Cardinal. The Monarch makes use of a square tank, while the Cardinal uses a round tank. Whichever you choose, you can expect the following features:

  • Every tank meets DOT-406 regulations
  • Each tank has crossmembers at all heads and baffles
  • Each tank has offset baffle openings to prevent sloshing from occurring
  • Each tank has overturn protection along with an expanded metal walkway
  • Each tank contains top and front rear drains
  • Each tank is built with LED lighting with vapor-proof wiring
  • Each tank has jeep-style fenders and a low center of gravity

Fuel Tank Options

Both models can be built with seven different tank styles and come with a variety of customization options. The seven tank styles that we offer include:

  • Clipper Tank Style
  • Classic Tank Style
  • Classic 2 Tank Style
  • Combo Tank Style
  • Champion Tank Style
  • Lub Liner Tank Style
  • Junior Tank Style

Each style has its own unique features and customization options. As far as customization options go, the following are just a few things you can choose from or add to your custom fuel truck design:

  • A five or seven-year warranty

For more information about our fuel trucks and your customization options, contact Amthor International today.

Vacuum Trucks

Vacuum TRuckWhen it comes to vacuum trucks, few tank truck manufacturers can offer the high quality, extensive features and numerous customization options that we offer here at Amthor International, which is one of the reasons we have a reputation as the country’s leading tank truck manufacturer.

Our Vacuum Trucks

First of all, we have both code and non-code vacuum trucks available depending on what your needs are. Every tank is available in steel, stainless steel or aluminum. In fact, our aluminum tanks are the heaviest built in the industry. The following are some of the features and options available for our vacuum trucks:

  • Stationary or dumping tanks built with or without full opening rear door
  • Heavy-duty off-road construction options
  • Tanks with 500 to 8,500-gallon capacity
  • Every tank comes with overturn protection, isolation valves, spill dams and top Girard vents.
  • Several different vacuum pump makes and models are available
  • Choose from several chassis makes and models
  • Choose from several tank interior protection options, such as magnesium anodes or epoxy lining
  • Choose from several tank and tank component heating options.

Our Vacuum Truck Claw Feature

Our vacuum tanks come with a number of useful features and customization options, but one of the options that makes our vacuum trucks far and away the best designed in the country is the “Claw” option.

The Claw is a feature consisting of a number of hydraulic arms that was designed to help the rear door on our vacuum trucks operate more safely. The Claw eliminates the need to use wing nuts along the top and sides of the vacuum truck since the driver will be able to release the door or pull it closed using a lever, which creates a tighter seal than possible through manual operation.

The use of the Claw helps to increase the safety of the driver since they will no longer have to climb up the tank to tighten down the rear door. Our Claw feature is designed so that it locks past center and so that the latch will not be loosened, even if pressure of the tank is lost or the cylinder doesn’t operate. Additionally, the use of the Claw could help save money on repairs caused by improper operation.

For more information about our vacuum trucks, the customization options that are available or about our unique Claw feature, be sure to contact us at Amthor International today.

Junior Tank Models

When it comes to fuel tanks, you won’t find nearly as many options anywhere else than at Amthor International. We offer two main types of fuel tank trucks – the Cardinal and the Monarch. Each one of these models comes in seven different styles, including our junior tank models.

Our Junior Tank Models

Both our Monarch Junior Tank Style and our Cardinal Junior Tank Style are built for under CDL chassis and come with tanks available in upwards of 1,200 gallons. These smaller fuel tank trucks are perfect for businesses that require on-site refueling and come packed with features as well as customizable options. Versions of the Monarch and the Cardinal Junior Tank models built to carry refined fuels meet all DOT-406 regulations as well.

Junior Tank Specifications

Some of the features that come with both the Monarch and the Cardinal models include the following:

  • Dished and flanged tank heads and baffles
  • Crossmembers at all heads and baffles
  • LED lighting designed with vapor-proof wiring
  • Jeep style fenders
  • Sides and top of the tank at .190
  • Five to seven year warranties available
  • Top and front rear drains

It’s also worth noting that the Monarch Junior Tank is semi-rectangular in shape.

Junior Tank Customization Options

In addition to coming with numerous features, both the Monarch Junior Tank and Cardinal Junior Tank can be customized to fit the unique needs of each one of our clients. The following are just a few of the many customization options that are available:

  • Choose from steel, stainless steel and hi-brite aluminum material
  • Choose from a 1/4 inch or 5/17 inch tank floor
  • Choose from V or L shaped tank sills
  • Choose from multiple compartment sizes
  • Choose from five different tank styles
  • Choose from numerous tank options

There are a lot of benefits to choosing our Amthor International Junior Tank models. Not only are they built with numerous features, but they are fully customizable as well. Not to mention that the lower center of gravity and compact size may fit your company’s needs than some of the larger models that we offer.

For more information about our line of Junior Tank Trucks and for advice on how you can customize it to fit your particular needs, be sure to contact us at Amthor International today.

DEF Tanks

One of the things that we pride ourselves on here at Amthor International is the amount of work we put into ensuring that all of our tanker trucks are as safe as possible. We continuously put effort into researching innovative new safety features to offer to our customers. For example, if you need a refined fuel tanker and want to make sure that it’s as safe as possible, we recommend our DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tanks.

Our DEF Tanks

DEF is a non-hazardous solution that consists of 67.5 percent deionized water and 32.5 percent urea. If you choose to use a DEF tank for your refined fuel tanker, the solution will be added into the exhaust stream of the tanker. This results in the dangerous NOx emissions breaking down into harmless water and nitrogen.

We offer our DEF tanks in our Monarch or Cardinal Champion tank style. All of the DEF tanks are built out of 100 percent stainless steel as well and can be fitted with or without insulation, depending on what your specific needs are. We can even heat the tank upon request. As far as delivering the DEF solution goes, we have a number of DEF delivery systems that you can choose from, including complete tank trucks, DEF carts, and skid units.

DEF Tank Specifications

The following are a few of the features that come with our DEF tanks:

  • You can choose from a tank capacity of 500 to 4,000 gallons
  • You can choose a stainless steel tank in either #2, #4 or #7 polished material
  • The baffle openings are offset to help prevent sloshing
  • There are crossmembers present at all heads and baffles
  • You can choose from numerous stainless steel pumping and metering equipment options
  • The tank is outfitted with Betts LED lighting
  • The rear polished aluminum bumper is DOT approved
  • You can choose from five rear canopy options

If you need a refined fuel tanker for your business, then you should consider one of our DEF tanks. For more information about our DEF tanks or for information about our refined fuel tankers and customization options in general, be sure to contact us at Amthor International today.

Air Railing

Here at Amthor International, we are proud to be the biggest and most diverse tanker truck manufacturer in the country. We’ve achieved this status by focusing on not just building the highest quality tanker trucks available, but ensuring that each one of our clients’ needs are met. Additionally, we’ve earned a reputation for our continuous innovation and our dedication to safety. In fact, we are always researching new and improved ways to make our tankers safer than ever. One of the most popular safety features that we offer for our refined fuel tanks are the air railings.

Air Railing Safety Feature

One of the risks that’s inherent in most fuel tanker trucks is the risk of walking across the tank itself. We make our fuel tankers safer for drivers to get on top of by installing air railings, which are top air operated. The way they work is simple – the driver of the tank will be forced to either raise or lower the railings before climbing on or off of the tank.

The railings will be automatically raised whenever the panel installed in the middle of the ladder is opened. Basically, whenever the driver needs to climb up the ladder to get to the top of the tank, they will be forced to open the panel, which in turn will automatically raise the aluminum safety railings. The only way to get down is to close the panel, which, in turn, lower the railings. This ensures that the driver will never forget to lower the railings.

In addition to the added safety of the air railings, the feature is installed so that the truck itself will not be able to operate if the air railings are still raised. This helps to ensure that the truck isn’t accidentally moved or driven off while someone is still on top of the tank, which could be a serious safety risk. The railings will need to be lowered again in order for the truck to be moved or operated.

Not only do we have a number of different refined fuel tanker truck options to choose from, but you can customize it in a number of different ways. We recommend adding our air railing to drastically improve the safety of your truck. For more information about our refined fuel tankers or about safety features, such as the air railing, contact us at Amthor International today.
